Ruben Gallego was born on November 20, 1979, in Chicago. He was born to a Colombian mother and Mexican father and raised in Evergreen Park, Illinois. He completed his graduation from Evergreen Park Community High School.

Gallego earned his bachelor’s degree in international relations from Harvard University. After college, he joined the Marines and served in the United States Marine Corps in Iraq. Later, he joined politics and in 2010, he won election to the Arizona House of Representatives. Gallego raised a total of $98,207 at the time of the election cycle.
